One User’s Review The Dish DVR Network Duo VIP 722 Receiver

Winner of the Cnet Editor’s Choice award, the Dish DVR Network, Duo DVR VIP 722 is without a doubt the most conversant DVR receiver’s in the marketplace.

Dish Network’s quality featured DVR Receiver is incomparable for families of children who own two or more TVs as this model takes care of both HD programming and standard definition programming (SD). In the situation of having two types of TV sets, the alternate choice would be to get two separate receivers.

My family upgraded from the Dish DVR Network 622 model, which is pretty similar to the VIP 722 model with the exception of the physical differences and that the VIP 622 had a smaller storage allowance. Other than that, I really can’t see much difference.

The benefits of the 622 and 722 are huge. The option to have two or more types of TVs (HD and SD) was really a big benefit. Additionally, the added advantage that you is able to record on two different television sets without having to pay for an additional system not only saves me money each month, I didn’t have to wipe down another piece of equipment!

The only thing I wasn’t so thrilled with would be that we weren’t able to view one tv show as we were recording another on the same TV. So we just record from the second set once we’ve programmed that into our primary. After that being said, it’s not at all that big of a drawback.

I’m not very technical so, to me, the menu may have been intimidating at first. Even on that note, I can’t be certain if it’s the fact that I’m not technical or simply the idea that I felt overwhelmed. That was with the 622 system. I’ve aced it since then. My brother didn’t have a problem at all with the system’s menu.

I think the main thing I adore over all the benefits must be the flexibility to skip ahead 30-seconds on pesky commercials. I’m sure there’s a pretty accurate number out there, however it seems that an hour-long show has about 35 minutes of repetitive commercials that I avoid as often as possible. By being able to speed up the infuriating interruption is a real bonus. Just the fact that one can pause and playback was reason enough for us to choose the 622 model, which is still a feature in the Dish DVR Network VIP 722. I am sure I use that single feature (& the two different types of TV benefit) above anything at all on the entire DVR.

My son really likes the picture in picture. He can keep up with whatever game he’s watching and his other shows at the same time. Actually I really don’t know how he does it, but he does.

The recording capability is extremely generous as well. We can record 55 hours on the HD TV and in the other room we can enjoy up to 350 hours of recordings. Overall, I’m extremely happy with the VIP 722 and, after using both DirecTV and Comcast, the phone service I get from DISH Network is by far above the aforementioned.
