In 2009, the mountain rescue team in the Lake District dealt with 532 incidents, which provides assistance to 675 people.

Of these, 68 (10 percent) were considered by the volunteers who have inadequate or poor footwear.

But of the 309 rescues in the Lake District so far this year, some 38 people were ill shoes – representing 12 percent of the incidents.

Mountain Rescue Officer Jed incident Feeney said: “2009 was the busiest year on record for us. The Lake District refers to a large number of tourists so there is a higher probability of them going in hills with wrong shoes. ”

Ms. Brislin said: “We have seen a dramatic increase in missions in the Lake District during the month of June. Mind is particd-hot for people to go and try to take advantage of it, but what they did was take appropriate precaution walked in flip-flops and not carry enough water. ”

From the air, members of the ambulance crew have seen people in pumps, Crocs, sandals and Ugg boots – often even without raincoat.

Bil ambulance technician Darlington Warren said: “You can go up in the hills in hot weather and I think everything is fine, but closes in so little time’s all walking around his garden in flip-flops, but not in the hills. You need good boots with ankle support and grip. ”

Nick Owen, head of the team and the Langdale. Ambleside mountain rescue, said call-outs to people ill-equipped for the climate and terrain represented between 35 and 40 percent of all redemptions.

“Most people’s bad luck, but one third of rescues could be avoided if people wore clothing and footwear. Ugg boots and Crocs are one no-no as far as I’m concerned, do not fit properly, have no grip and ankle support and could end up tripping. ”

To prevent more accidents on the moors, North West Air Ambulance advised walkers to take at least a water bottle, waterproof clothing, energy bars, anti-blister bandages and proper hiking boots.

Ugg boots have gained widespread popularity since 2000 and soon became a favorite among celebrities and shakes.

The sheepskin and wool lined boots unisex believed to have been first designed for cattle shearers of Australia in the 1920s.
